In order to perform any lab exercise that requires Windows operating system such as Window 8/10 or Windows Server 2008/2012, first, you need to install it on your system. You can install Windows 10 either on a physical system or you can install it on a virtualized platform such as VirtualBox, Hyper-V, or VMware. In nowadays, almost everything is possible to perform on a virtualized platform then why we should take the risk for doing research and development on a physical system. Once you are familiar with a virtualized platform, you can setup your own virtual lab to perform hands-on practices for the self-study. In this post, we will explain a step by step guide to install Windows 10 on VMware Workstation.
VMware Install Options
You can install Windows 10 on VMware Workstation using any of the following installation media options (methods):
- Install Windows 10 using physical DVD media.
- Install Windows 10 using ISO image file.
- Install Window 10 using USB drive.
- Install Window using Window Deployment Service (WDS).
Regardless the installation source method you choose to install Window 10, you need to specify the installation source and the rest of the process will remain same for all the installation methods.
In this post, we will install Window 10 on VMware Workstation Player using the ISO image file. We assume that you have already downloaded Windows 10 ISO image file from the Microsoft download center. You can download the Windows 10 evaluation ISO image file free of cost. We also assume that you have already installed VMware Workstation Player that is freely available to download from the VMware official website for the non-commercial use.
